  The legends sorrentine
By the way… of Sirentum, the young girl to whom Sorrento owes (!) her name…

Sirentum was a young girl been born by the union of Mirone and Leucosia, two farmers that lived in the hilly zone, Casarlano. She owed his/her birth to a vote been like his/her parents in the temple of the Sirens placed to Mass Lubrense. His/her blonde hair as the gold, his/her sweet character, his/her desire to live, the thoughtlessness of the games they did an unique creature of it. It seems that on the beach of harbor Great one day also had a meeting with the siren Partenope that praised its beauty and a queen future prognosticated her. In fact, fatal it was the meeting that Sirentum had with a prince of the family Durazzo… shortly time they got married him. The two young people conducted a life from travellers but in the moments in which you/they lived to Sorrento they were very hospitable with all distributing wines, sweets to the honey, almonds, fig trees without any hesitation. An ugly day of 1558 they disembarked the Saracens that besides raiding the wealths of the population, they also made some prisoners, among these there was the beautiful Sirentum. Only after some years Sirentum could return to his/her country thanks to the inhabitants, also the more poor men, that spontaneously gave what also possessed to get back among them Sirentum.
